Favorite Kpop #6: Ateez

Ateez is a South Korean boy band formed by KQ Entertainment. The group consists of eight members: Hongjoong, Seonghwa, Yunho, Yeosang, San, Mingi, Wooyoung and Jongho. They debuted on October 24, 2018, with their first album called Treasure EP.1: All to Zero. Ateez have sold over four million physical albums worldwide. Often referred to as “Global Performance Idols” by Korean media and dubbed “4th Generation Leaders” by the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the group also has served as official global ambassadors for Korean culture and tourism. You can read the rest on their Wikipedia page that talks about their pre debut days, the albums that they’ve released so far, their touring and some events they had to postpone cause of covid even some collabs and endorsements too. It’s awesome that they’ve accomplished a lot together as a group.

I just recently started to listen to them for the past couple of days so I don’t know much about them without doing the whole thorough research on them. I saw their performance on Kindgom to their song Wonderland and I started to like it. You can see here if you would like. I saw their performance of their same song on the Studio Choom YouTube channel and the song started to grow on me, thought I’d try and listen to their other songs too. I saw videos on YouTube and it seems like Ateez have a storyline too for the concepts of their albums. From one video I saw the Wonderland song is referenced from Alice in Wonderland which you can see here. When I saw that I thought it was cool. I never noticed the other kpop groups have storylines to their concepts of their music videos also.

I guess if BTS have it for their albums then I guess Ateez does too. I just never paid that much attention to that part that’s all. Here is there Studio Choom performance of their song Wonderland. If interested you can check out their comeback stage of Wonderland here. I don’t know the backstory of their song yet but it’s definitely a bop since I’ve been listening to it and watching their performance for it. Fireworks (I’m The One), Answer and Inception are the other songs I like. My bias for the group is Hongjoong, Mingi, San and Seonghwa. After looking at some articles and kpop bopping to their songs I finally figured it out. It’s so cool Ateez is a eight member group like Stray Kids and they both debuted at the same year, 2018. Their fandom name is Atiny a combination of Ateez and Destiny together meaning that ATEEZ and their fans were destined to meet.
